The Old Palace at Hatfield House

Ellie and Chris’s wedding by Hatfield House wedding photographers, Carol and Paul Tansley. Documentary wedding photographers.

Hatfield House was a natural choice of wedding venue for Ellie & Chris. Ellie had visited Hatfield Park many times as a child and it’s a special place for her and her family. What a venue. This main historic Tudor building is all that remains of the Old Palace built in 1485-1497 by John Morton, Bishop of Ely. It was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I. Apparently, the mediaeval brickwork is one of the finest examples of its kind in England. The spectacular Banqueting Hall is now available for weddings and functions and certainly makes an impressive backdrop for the wedding breakfast and later the dancing.

Ellie got ready upstairs at one end of the building and Chris got ready in the Upper Solar at the other end. Their ceremony was held in the magnificent St Etheldreda’s Church which is right next to the venue. It’s nice when weddings are all in one place, so there is no travel involved during the day for the couple or their guests. After the ceremony, the couple and guests walked back to the Palace and through to the raised lawn at the rear, which overlooks the knot garden and both the Old Palace and the new house too.

“Since getting our photos back from Paul and Carol, we have not been able to stop looking at them. Words cannot describe how perfectly they captured our wedding day – from the vibrant colours in every photo to the emotions on everyone’s faces, every shot they took is simply stunning. On the day, both Paul and Carol were polite, professional and amazing to work with. We really did forget that they were there! If you are looking for unobtrusive, yet highly professional wedding photographers I wholeheartedly recommend booking the Tansleys – you won’t be disappointed!”
